There is a deforestation crisis in QLD killing our wildlife, damaging our reef, and contributing to climate change, but together we can stop it! When people learn about this issue they are outraged and demand change...and that's our job...to tell them.

We will be coming together at the Wilderness Society Brisbane office to call people in the areas of Mount Ommaney and Mansfield every Wednesday night, and we need your help. Training and resources will be provided and we promise you will have fun, meet new friends, and really feel like you have contributed to positive change, because you will have. Your team leaders are all experienced door knockers and will be there to guide and mentor you.

We will meet at the office at 5:45 pm (it's okay if you need to be a little later), have something to eat and run through some training together and then hit the phones to change the world :) We will then come back together for a debrief at about 7:30pm and will call it a night at 7:45pm.

These sessions are a great way for anyone to make a contribution, no matter your age or experience. We can't wait to see you there!

Sydney Two-Day Community Organising Training November 2017

Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 08:30 AM · 20 rsvps
Wilderness Society, Sydney in Sydney, Australia

Training-small.jpg

Wilderness Society supporters are invited to attend our two-day Fundamentals of Community Organising training course. Training is free for Wilderness Society supporters and will teach you the core skills of community organising. You'll have the opportunity after the training to work on Wilderness Society campaigns, join a local organising team and to take the skills you learn to work with your local community on issues you care about.

Background

Our training program is a key part of our new community organising strategy. Our many successes over the last 40 years have shown that the best way to protect nature for future generations is to demonstrate visible public support, not only for the protection of nature in Australia, but care for the climate globally.

We are returning to our people-power roots and investing in our greatest strength: our ability to inspire and empower people to create change. Community organising is the primary source of our power and will help us win campaigns, but it is much more than this. It involves empowering, training and supporting leaders to activate their communities, build effective teams and create solutions to achieve our shared vision of a society that is deeply connected to nature and seeks to protect our natural world.

The course

This course will provide you with the fundamentals of community organising including:

  • theory and frameworks,
  • relational organising skills,
  • using personal narrative,
  • cutting an issue and making a plan, and
  • core organising skills including running effective house parties.

Through this training, you will be well equipped to work with the Wilderness Society on our current campaigns and community organising program, as well as work with your local community or organisations to take effective action on the issues you really care about.

You can see the full agenda here: two-day community organising training agenda

This course is free for Wilderness Society supporters and catering will be provided. Please ensure you let us know if you have any dietary requirements, mobility issues or anything else we need to take into consideration.
