Hands Across The Sand

Dear Ruth,

On Saturday the 21st of May, people will join hands worldwide to end our dependence on dirty fuels and look ahead to a clean energy future. Hands Across The Sand began in response to the massive, horrifically destructive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010.  Right now in Australia, this same irresponsible company is planning to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight, one of the worlds most important whale breeding grounds and a haven for a range of other species, 85% of which exist nowhere else on Earth.  Modelling has shown that should an oil spill happen here, the consequences would be catastrophic for our vibrant coastal communities, including the North-West coast of Tasmania.

Hands Across the Sand - Sisters Beach, North West Coast, Tasmania

When: Saturday 21st May, meet up at 11.00am

Here in Tassie, we have some of the cleanest and most spectacular coastlines anywhere in the world and as an island, we rely upon these clean coastal waters for our economy, health and lifestyle.  So what can you do to help protect this beautiful asset?  Come along to Hands Across The Sand for a fun day at the beach, and add your voice to the call to shift to clean, renewable energy and a safer and fairer future for us all.
