ABOUT

You have the opportunity to show your local MP that you urgently want nature laws that actually protect nature.

Right now, the Australian government is reforming our broken nature law.

Currently, their proposals are riddled with loopholes and won’t actually stop deforestation and extinctions. The government has an urgent, once-in-a-generation opportunity to step up and pass nature laws that work.

That means:

  • Stopping deforestation
  • Ending the extinction crisis; and
  • A fair say for communities, not just corporations.

On Thursday 23 May, you will hear from The Wilderness Society’s Biodiversity Policy and Campaign Manager, Sam Szoke-Burke, ACF’s National Biodiversity Policy Adviser Brendan Sydes, and federal Members of Parliament (MPs) Josh Burns (Macnamara) and Zoe Daniel (Goldstein)

Will you join our community forum to learn more about why decision makers in the South Eastern Suburbs are crucial for showing the government that Australians want and expect effective nature laws?

RSVP in the top right of the page.

Date: 23 May, 2024

group of people with signs saying new nature laws

As a local community, we have a particularly important role to play at this moment.

If we demonstrate that we care about nature laws that actually protect forests and stop extinctions, our elected parliamentarians will know this issue matters to their constituents and community. They will understand that passing mediocre laws, or failing to pass the laws nature needs, is too risky for them. They will then raise our shared concerns, and combined with the other MPs we are targeting, will influence the outcome of this reform process.

Register early for this timely event as places are limited and will fill quickly!

This event is a collaboration between The Wilderness Society, ACF, Glen Eira Emergency Climate Action group, and Bayside Climate Crisis Action group. Together we strive for stronger protections for our living world that makes all life possible.
