TWS has established itself as one of the most effective environment groups in Australia, due largely to the contributions of people like you. Thanks for joining us.
The Wilderness Society is a not for profit conservation organisation dedicated to protecting, promoting and restoring wilderness and natural processes across Australia for the survival and ongoing evolution of life on Earth. As a non-profit, non-government, community based organisation, the support of volunteers is crucial. Volunteering with The Wilderness Society is an opportunity to learn about, and contribute to, the environmental movement in Victoria and also in Australia.
Who are we and what do we do?
The Wilderness Society was established in 1976 to help save the Franklin River and has since played an important role in many of Australia’s great conservation campaigns. Kakadu, the Daintree, South Western Tasmanian Wilderness, the forests of Eastern and Western Australia and the wilderness of Antarctica are among the many places TWS has helped protect.
Protecting, promoting and restoring wilderness and natural processes across Australia for the survival and ongoing evolution of life on Earth.
TWS has agreed on a set of values that guide our work and define us as an organisation. These values capture the essence of The Wilderness Society, and work to create a sense of unity and cohesion amongst staff, volunteers and active members:
1. Passion for our Purpose (courage, strength of conviction, determination)
2. The Power of People to Make Change Organisational Independence and Integrity
3. Compassion (valuing and supporting TWS people, respecting and having integrity in dealing with others)
4. Commitment to Success in protecting the environment (winning immediate campaigns and achieving long term change)
The Wilderness Society achieves its outcomes by drawing on excellence, expertise and innovation in diverse fields: Science, community mobilisation, corporate pressure, education and communication. TWS is built for long term success, with over 45,000 members and thousands more supporters across Australia.
