The Wilderness Society Tasmania invites you to our 'Clearfell Witness Rally' - experience for yourself what Industrial logging is doing to our precious forests
Native forest logging in Lutruwita / Tasmania is a blight on our collective conscience. For too long, we have seen stands of giant old eucalypts get destroyed for woodchips and sent overseas. The aftermath of this destruction is too often hidden from public view, behind locked gates on distant gravel roads. This rally is an opportunity to come and see for yourself what is at stake, what has been lost, and learn how to get active for the forests.
In recent weeks, we have conducted post-logging surveys in logging area 'DN023H' in the Huon Valley. During these visits, we have found countless alleged breaches of the logging plans, including ginormous stumps, piles of giant tree buttresses, and logging and burning inside streamside reserves. We are calling on the wider community to join us to witness this clearfell, to see what is happening in Tassie's forests for yourself, and to elevate the issue of truly caring for our environment as we head into the 2025 Tasmanian election.
The day will include walks though the clearfell, talks with Dr Jen Sanger (Forest Ecologist), Cody Gangell (Pakana Activist and Cultural Practitioner), Alice Hardinge (TWS Tas Campaigns Manager), and Hughie Nicklason (TWS Tas Forest Campaigner), and music from Sorin Vanzino.
We will also be joined by candidates for the Tasmanian State Election from the Franklin electorate, Rosalie Woodruff (Greens) and Peter George (Independent). Labor and Liberal candidates have been invited to attend.

We recommend folks who wish to see some stunning intact forest to head onwards to 'Grove of Giants' after the event.
