The Wilderness Society, Metro North group invites you to join us for an online zoom screening of ‘Desert Wetlands – Pulse of the Outback’, a documentary by Geoff Spanner about Australia's spectacular Desert Wetlands. The film was awarded the 2019 Best Ecosystem Award at the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival in New York and an Outstanding Excellence Award at Docs Without Borders.
Geoff Spanner notes that ‘the importance of the Desert Wetlands on a global scale cannot be overstated’ and ‘this film is an attempt to show the natural wonder of an environment that is globally almost gone. Australian rivers generally are among the most endangered ecosystems on earth. We still have a chance to protect the desert rivers and hopefully we will. But there is little time left.’
We invite you to connect with our group online via Zoom, with your wine and cheese, to celebrate the winter solstice and view this wonderful ‘celebration of one of Earth's most remarkable landscapes. A place where climate holds sway over everything. This is a landscape that defies our senses and defies our preconceptions of how nature behaves. But it can easily disappear’, ‘from water extraction for agriculture and shale oil / gas fracking to the effects of climate change.’
We are a passionate group of local Wilderness Society volunteers, who work together for the protection of our natural environment. We enact change on a local scale, focusing on issues such as saving Mount Coot-tha from the zip-line, deforestation and conserving threatened koala populations.
The evening is a chance to meet our team from the comfort of your own home in your ugg boots, and to find out what it is we do. This is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded people in your local community in Brisbane who care about conservation and the future of Australia’s environment.
The event is free, and you get to enjoy a beautiful movie :)
Please note, you will receive the Zoom invitation when you RSVP to the event.
