For more than 50 years, protecting native forests has been at the heart of The Wilderness Society's work. Alongside the Australian Conservation Foundation, the Bob Brown Foundation, Wilderness Australia and more than 50 other organisations, we have just launched the Forest Protection Principles—a shared vision to end native forest logging and secure permanent protection for forests nationwide.
The first test is already here. The Federal Government is moving to hand environmental decision-making powers to the Tasmanian Government through a bilateral agreement—opening the door to weaker protections for critically endangered swift parrot habitat. Unless we push back, Tasmania won't be the last. This model could be rolled out across Australia.
We need a movement that watches every move, names every loss, and holds decision-makers accountable for the choices they make - in the open, on the record. Join us for this national campaign update and then take action as we build the watchdog Australia's nature needs.
