Rally for Forests: Tell Bunnings to Go Deforestation-Free
Bunnings has the power to help protect Australia's precious native forests. Instead, it continues to sell timber products linked to the logging of forests that are home to threatened wildlife.
It's time for Bunnings to go deforestation-free!
On 29 October, Bunnings' parent company, Wesfarmers, will hold its Annual General Meeting in Perth. While shareholders and company executives gather inside, we'll be outside making sure the voices of people who care about forests and wildlife are heard.
And we'll have someone on the inside too!
The Wilderness Society's Manager of Corporate Advocacy and Engagement, Amanda Holly, will be attending the AGM to ask the hard questions about Bunnings' timber sourcing and when the company will commit to going deforestation-free.
We need you outside to help make that message impossible to ignore.
Why we're rallying
Bunnings is one of Australia's biggest timber retailers, and its sourcing decisions have a real impact on our native forests.
Despite its responsible timber sourcing commitments, Bunnings continues to accept certification that can allow timber from high conservation value native forests, including threatened species habitat.
We want Bunnings to stop sourcing timber from these forests and commit to genuinely deforestation-free products.
With Wesfarmers executives and shareholders meeting in Perth, this is a powerful opportunity to show them that the community expects better.
