📚 About the Awards

Since 1994, the Wilderness Society has been celebrating the best new fiction, non-fiction and picture books written for children that promote a love of nature—the Environment Award for Children’s Literature.

In 2022, we added the Karajia Award that honours First Nations storytellers sharing tales of connection to Country, language and community.

We are proud to partner with Harry Hartog, who donates 10% of sales of shortlisted books back to the Wilderness Society to help protect Australia’s wild places for future generations.
