Eco-philosophy Social:
“You say you want a Revolution … You better free your mind instead”

What are your thoughts on our role as carers of our environment? Is liberal democracy
adequate to bring about the social and political changes needed to tackle climate change
and other pressing environmental issues? Or do we need a new set of shared values to
bring about such change? How do we agree on such values? Does it require a moral
revolution? If so, how do we bring this about? Can Aboriginal philosophy, knowledge
systems, and a custodial ethic that has been practiced for 60,000 years provide key insights
about how to care for country by being place-responsive?

We aim to create a collaborative dialogical space that will provide opportunities to discuss
and reflect on the how we, as citizens in a democracy, can contribute to change in an age of
environmental crisis. We live with uncertainty and social disagreement about the
philosophical underpinnings of climate change, and the ability of politicians to deal with
profound questions regarding ethics, human-nature relationships, justice, and knowledge.
Discussion can be a self-empowering experience where the expression and examination of
our worldviews regarding nature and society can ignite collaborative dialogue and draw out
paths for change regarding social and ecological issues.

We’ll also share a short update on what The Wilderness Society is currently working on
and ways you can get involved locally if you’d like to take action for nature.
