Forests and Bushland in Queensland Are in Crisis – It’s Time for Action

Queensland is facing an unchecked deforestation crisis, with forests and bushland being bulldozed at an alarming rate. This destruction is pushing iconic species like the Greater Glider and Red Goshawk to the brink of extinction.

The Albanese Government promised to strengthen Australia’s nature laws, yet Australians have seen little action. Companies, from Australian supermarkets to those in international markets, are starting to go deforestation-free. The majority of Australians want stronger protections for forests and wildlife.

Now, it’s time for our communities to demand real leadership for nature: it’s time the government does its job and prioritises nature.

What to Expect

🌿 Learn from experts & local campaigners about the devastating impacts of deforestation in Queensland.
🐨 Understand how weak federal nature laws and government inaction are failing to protect wildlife and what must change.
🗣 Connect with like-minded locals and be part of a growing movement calling for nature protection.
📢 Take action together to hold the government accountable and demand stronger forest and bushland protection.
🎤 Tell candidates directly—this is your chance to speak with political candidates, ask questions, and challenge them on their commitments to protecting nature.

Why This Matters

  • Queensland is a deforestation hotspot, alongside the Amazon, Borneo and the Congo. Queensland’s forests and bushland are being bulldozed at one of the highest rates in the world with over 2 million hectares destroyed over the last 5 years
  • Rampant deforestation is driving species like the Koala and Greater Glider towards extinction.
  • The Federal Government has the power to stop this destruction but has failed to deliver the strong environmental laws Australians want.
  • This event is an opportunity for the community to come together and push for real change before it’s too late.
