The first Wednesday of every month, Climate Community Night hosts a gathering for those in the environmental space on the Gold Coast.
This month the Gold Coast Wilderness Society is helping us to take the opportunity to tell the Federal Government that it's not okay to shut communities out of the process of making much needed reforms to our EPBC Act, and one of the most important things these reforms need to deliver is actually better community rights in environmental decisions.Â
To do this we will be joining other community events across Australia in this special week of action!
On the first In the 20-year history of the EPBC Act, almost all of projects assessed by the Federal Government have been approved—even in cases of overwhelming community opposition and devastating impacts on nature.Â
Right now new federal nature laws are being drafted by the federal government.
Communities across Australia are coming together from Monday 30 October to Sunday 5 November 2023 to send a clear message to politicians: the community expects them to deliver strong laws—laws that will genuinely protect our globally significant ecosystems and species found nowhere else on earth.
Only when the public are empowered with laws, policies and regulations that deliver a fair say in environmental decision-making will we get better outcomes for people and nature.
Will you join us at Mos Desert Clubhouse? Â
At this event we will:
- connect with others who care about nature 🌱Â
- creatively colour, draw, decorate and write personal messages on a large banner featuring an outline of iconic threatened species (see mock-up below), which will be delivered to Kate Andrews, Federal MP for the electorate of McPhersonÂ
- hear from other Gold COast community members about other important environmental issues
- enjoy snacks and drinks together
Families are welcome.
The event will start at 6pm at Mos Desert Clubhouse 36 Central Dr, Burleigh Heads QLD 4220, Australia
We are looking forward to seeing you there!Â
