Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has just recklessly approved South32's disasterous bauxite mining expansion until 2075- completely ignoring experts' concerns and over 18,000 letters to the Minister, calling on her to reject deforestation of the irreplaceable Jarrah forests.
This expansion will lead to the destruction of over 4,000ha of the Northern Jarrah Forest including habitat for countless endangered and unique species of flora and fauna- including woylie, ringtail possums, the rare Quindanning spider orchid, and vital black cockatoo nesting trees.
South32's Worsley bauxite mine is also the 4th most-polluting project in the state. At a time when we need to be rapidly curbing emissions, this project threatens not just forests but a safe livable future for us all.
Join us to make some noise as we bring the action to South32 to show them we won't stand for their destruction of forests and climate!
