Bushwalking the South Coast Track is one of the continent's premier wilderness experiences. It’s awash with rich coastal ecosystems, the iconic ironbounds traverse, tannin-stained rivers, and notorious weather and terrain (the mud is legendary!).
However - despite these incredible, outstanding values - the track is subject to a suite of developments, including luxury lodges and a range of associated infrastructure. The developers plans were due to come out by July this year. Fortunately, we’ve seen nothing yet, but the project remains active, as the state government's Parks Privatisation Policy continues to facilitate developments in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
We’ve produced a beautiful guide to the South Coast Track, compiled by a bunch of artists who joined our BioBlitz citizen science trips on the South Coast Track over the past two summers. Join us at the Ferntree Tavern, Thursday October 2nd, as we continue our call for an end to the proposed developments along this spectacular coastline, and launch this beautiful guide to a truly special place.
This event will be a bush-walking themed celebration of the South Coast Track - wear your best bushwalking kit: boots, jacket, gaiters and all!
