Australia is facing an extinction crisis. Animals like our beloved koala are being pushed closer and closer to the point of no return. Our farmlands are mined, our oceans are overfished, our rivers are drained, dammed and degraded. 50% of our forests are gone.
The legislation we rely on to protect what makes Australia special - the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (1999) (EBPC Act) - is not up to scratch. Even with this law in place, Australia has one of the worst rates of species extinction on the planet, and the government keeps turning a blind eye to their continued destruction, refusing to act to help bring them back from the brink.
We have a plan to replace Australia's largely toothless environmental rules and regulators with a consistent, commonsense plan and a National Environment Commission to act as an independent voice for nature.
The EPBC (1999) is up for its 10 year review in October this year. Join our Nature Laws campaigner Suzanne Milthorpe at the Sydney campaign centre to find out what the next phase in our campaign looks like, and how you can be involved in making sure everyday Australians' voices are heard throughout this vital review.
