In the 20-year history of the EPBC Act, almost all of projects assessed by the Federal Government have been approved—even in cases of overwhelming community opposition and devastating impacts on nature.Â
Right now new federal nature laws are being drafted by the federal government.
Communities across Australia are coming together from Monday 30 October to Sunday 5 November 2023 to send a clear message to politicians: the community expects them to deliver strong laws—laws that will genuinely protect our globally significant ecosystems and species found nowhere else on earth.
Only when the public are empowered with laws, policies and regulations that deliver a fair say in environmental decision-making will we get better outcomes for people and nature.
Will you join our picnic & paint event in Burwood Park? Â
At this event we will:
- connect with others who care about nature 🌱 and a fair say in decision-making
- creatively colour, draw, decorate and write personal messages on a large banner featuring an outline of iconic threatened species (see mock-up below), which will be delivered to Sally Sitou, Federal Labor MP for the electorate of Reid
- hand out flyers and have conversations with locals about the need for transparent and accountable federal nature laws that change the status quo for nature
- invite local shop owners to display posters in their windows.Â
- enjoy morning tea snacks together
Families are welcome.
You can access Burwood Park via Burwood Station, 5 mins walk away, or there is street parking.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!Â
