Industrial logging of native forests here in NSW is continuing despite our community’s demand for forests to be protected.
You have the opportunity to come together in-person with other volunteers from across Sydney so that you can write an effective letter to your local state MP to demand their urgent action.
Why now? Early in this term of state parliament, MPs from all parties need to represent their community’s voices while they are determining their political agenda for this term. Additionally, the Forestry Corporation of NSW could log more than 30,000 hectares of state forests within the proposed Great Koala National Park while planning for the park is under way—unless the NSW government acts urgently to suspend logging in these areas.
With any others living in your electorate, you will co-write a structured letter to demonstrate your community’s support for the protection of NSW native forests and strong community rights in environmental decision-making. The aim is to successfully secure a meeting with your parliamentary representative to voice your concern and discuss their position. During the past 9 months, volunteers like you have written letters with coaching support so that they were effectively able to influence their federal MP. We can do it again now at the state level.

The Victorian government’s announcement that it will end native forest logging at the end of 2023 has shown that a near-term end to native forest logging is possible. When communities have a real say in decisions we get better outcomes for nature and people.
Let’s now demand stop the chop for NSW forest logging!
