The Higgs track is a medium difficulty 4-hour return walk in the kooparoona niara (Great Western Tiers) region. The 500m climb to Lady Lake Hut is a steadily slight incline on a well-established track. The walk traverses through stunning creeks, wet sclerophyll forests and ends on an alpine plateau.
We will be carpooling from the Launceston Campaign Centre, departing at 8:30am. We will arrive at the beginning of the Higgs track by 10am and walk for approximately 5 hours.
Please bring water, lunch and snacks and wear appropriate hiking attire, including stick if necessary. A first aid kit will be supplied with qualified first aiders present. Â

This hike is to support the kooparoona niara (Great Western Tiers) National Park campaign, which highlights the opportunity to create the first substantial new National Park in Tasmania in about 30 years. The kooparoona niara region is considered highly significant to the palawa-pakana people. The campaigns main goal is for the kooparoona niara to become the first First Nations owned and managed National Park.
