ABOUT

On Saturday 17th October at 1PM, join us for a reading of 'Creature Corridors' by Billie Rooney! Followed by the announcement of the 2026 winners of the Karajia and Environment awards for Children’s Literature at 1:30PM 🌿

Creatures are on the move! Wild animals often travel to find food, shelter or a place to breed. But this is becoming more difficult and dangerous, as construction and land clearing are affecting their habitat.

Creature Corridors follows kangaroos, koalas, birds, fish, crabs, cassowaries and lizards through wildlife corridors that exist across forests, rivers and seas. These corridors provide paths and spaces for them to move around safely. Discover how we can share our world with animals in this delightful and engaging story.

Nature Book Week (October 10-18) is The Wilderness Society’s annual celebration of nature and storytelling, involving a free series of nature-themed events for storytellers of all ages. This year, we’re turning the Launceston office into a storytelling hub, with a drop in space open Tuesday 13 - Saturday 17th, including art-making, book giveaways, refreshments, prizes and workshops. The 2026 shortlist for the Karajia and Environment awards for Children’s Literature will be featured, plus there will be a 40% discount on all books storewide for the whole week!

This event will take place on the sovereign and unceded lands of the Palawa people, the rightful owners of Lutruwita/Tasmania.

Parking & Public Access: Street parking is available although it is minimal. Public transport is available within 100 metres of the venue. The event will be held downstairs, which is wheelchair accessible.
