ABOUT

Winter is here once again and so are our office film nights! Come in, grab some soup and enjoy this iconic retelling of Australia's most successful environmental campaign.

With the 40th anniversary of the 'NO DAMS' announcement for the Franklin and Lower Gordon on July 1st, take a moment to look back on the campaigns success and the formation of the Wilderness Society.

Admission will be $10 per person. Pay cash or Eftpos on arrival. Hot soup and refreshments will be available from 5:30pm, with donations encouraged to help cover costs. The film will begin at 6pm following a few words from our guest speaker, 'Blue Cathedral' author Cameron Hindrum. The film will run for 91 minutes.

Eighth-generation Tasmanian and environmentalist Oliver Cassidy embarks on a life-changing solo rafting trip down the beautiful yet remote Franklin River. His goal is to retrace his late father’s 14-day expedition to attend the blockade that helped save the World-Heritage listed national park from being destroyed by a huge hydroelectric dam project in the early 1980s.

Featuring never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with key players such as Bob Brown and Uncle Jim Everett, the eight-year-long 'Franklin campaign' is revealed as the most significant environmental protest in Australia's history; an inspiring example of the power of non-violent direct action to bring about lasting change.

Physically challenged beyond his limits, Oliver’s journey is one of healing and deeper understanding as he searches for the right way to say 'goodbye' to his father.

RSVP essential as there are only 30 seats available.
