Come and join locals and conservationists for a guided walk through the forest near Junee Cave Reserve at Maydena. This forest is proposed to be logged imminently by Forestry Tasmania (trading as ‘Sustainable Timber Tasmania’). Enough people walking through might just save it. Come and bear witness and enjoy the natural splendour at the same time.

Logging is due to commence in the forests next to Maydena Bike Park and Junee Cave Reserve imminently. Maydena is the gateway to the Styx region known for its spectacular forests, some of which are protected.
The logging, if it goes ahead, will tear a hole in the ecological fabric of this area, which is flanked by conservation reserves, upstream from Junee River, is full of spectacular ferns, rests upon a globally-significant karst system, and contains threatened species habitat of the Masked Owl, Tasmanian Devil, Wedgetail Eagle, Grey Goshawk and Spotted Tail Quoll.
The Junee Cave Reserve is loved by locals and visitors alike.
The guided walk will be followed by a picnic by the Junee River by Junee Cave Reserve, and an opportunity to take the short 15 minute walk to the Junee cave.
Come see the forest for yourself and learn more about the wonderful natural values of this area!
PARKING: Please note there are limited carparks at the reserve. Please carpool if possible, or ride, or park at Junee Bridge and enjoy the pleasant 30 minute walk to the reserve.
This event will take place on the sovereign and unceded lands of the Palawa people, the rightful owners of lutruwita / Tasmania.
