ABOUT

Imagine yourself walking - the soft scrunching of freshly dropped gum leaves in the moist, quiet forests. The scent of eucalyptus. Above you, the tallest flowering plants on earth - the mighty regnans - stretch like smooth cream sky-scrapers into the canopy. Below in their mighty shadows, a brilliant array of tree ferns, sassafras and fungi drip with dew, following a morning fog.

You’re in the presence of forests like nowhere else. In Maydena - near the boundary of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area - these lush, beautiful forests have thrived for aeons.

But Forestry Tasmania (trading as Sustainable Timbers Tasmania) are pushing the dozers deep into this special patch, which sits on the chopping block for the coming spring. Machinery with no regard for natural values, for towering giants, or the hidden karst cave systems of the region they’re growing upon.

The forests have a special story to tell. We’ve arranged a bunch of excellent, passionate speakers to bring their interpretation of these stories and experiences under these giants - along with a bunch of stunning photos - to the Duke Hotel, Wednesday August 2nd, 6-730pm. RSVP today!

Speakers include:

  • Alice Hardinge (Wilderness Society Forests Campaigner)
  • Jan Corigliano
  • Dan Gerlach
  • More TBA

This event will take place on the sovereign and unceded lands of the Palawa people, the rightful owners of Lutruwita / Tasmania.

Parking & Public Access: Street-parking is available although it is minimal. Public transport is available to within 100 metres of the venue, both on Macquarie and Davies Streets. The event will be held downstairs at the venue, which is wheelchair accessible.
