Volunteer Caretaker

 This Role

We’re looking for a serious people person. The Crusaders Caretaker is the guardian of the Crusaders team; a team dedicated to mobilising the Wilderness Society supporters and to raise public awareness of nature issues here in WA.


As Caretaker you’ll need to be fantastic at organising, motivating and managing volunteers. You’re primary focus is keeping our core volunteers happy and focused.

Who Are We?

The Wilderness Society WA (TWSWA) is a not for profit community based conservation organisation dedicated to the protection and restoration of our wilderness and wildlife in Australia.

Since it was established in 1976 to help save the Franklin River, the Wilderness Society has been involved in the protection of over 7 million hectares of irreplaceable wilderness. The Society’s conservation victories include the protection of magnificent wild places such as Kakadu National Park, Fraser Island, Queensland’s Daintree tropical rainforests, the old growth forests of Western Australia and the southern forests of New South Wales.

Role:  Crusaders Caretaker

Role Type: Unpaid Volunteer Role

Location: TWS HQ Perth, City West Lotteries House, 2 Delhi Street, West Perth.

Hours: 0.2 FTE (One day a week), minimum 3 month commitment

 

What Would I Be Doing?

Volunteer Staff Engagement

  • Keep volunteers feeling happy, comfortable and confident in their roles + having fun!

  • Figure out ways to make volunteers stay around long term.

  • Maintain engagement with previous volunteers.

  • Organise volunteer staff social events and catch-ups. 

Volunteer Staff Recruitment

  • Assist the Community Organisers build volunteer teams, including organising and running recruitment when necessary.

  • Maintain induction processes (and outduction processes) and documents.

Who Should Apply?

You don’t have to be an expert, however we are looking for someone who:

  • Has some knowledge & experience of volunteer management;

  • An ability to lead, motivate and develop others;

  • Has a genuine interest in organisational culture building and willingness to learn more;

  • Is  flexible with their time and are available for meetings outside of hours ongoingly on a monthly basis;

  • Has the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the team and organisation;

  • Values integrity and has high levels of professionalism and attention to detail;

  • Be a conflict dissolver; calm under pressure, and completely disinterested in gossip.

  • Works well within a team environment and enjoys working with likeminded people.

Commitments

  • One day a week at the TWS WA Office (flexible)

  • Attendance to our monthly organisational reporting, check-in and social event

  • Attend a training and induction day, date to be confirmed based on availability.

  • Willingness to take direction and feedback
