Join the Wilderness Society and Jarrahdale Forest Protectors for a walk through stunning Jarrah forest as part of Nature Book Week. The walk will be guided by Jarrahdale Heritage Society and Jarrahdale Forest Protector, Vicky. On this walk you'll learn the importance and power of storytelling in protecting these forests.
The walk will be approximately 7.5km (2.5hr). Jarrahdale is approximately 1hr south of Boorloo / Perth, making this walk a perfect Saturday morning adventure out of the city.
The Jarrah forests in the South West corner of WA carry within them a long evolutionary story of responding to harsh and changing conditions, resulting in the thousands of species found here that occur nowhere else in the world. The forest along the Mundlimup trail is regrowth Jarrah (known in Noongar language as djarraly).
Nature Book Week (4-10 September) is an all ages celebration of nature books and storytelling. Illustration, poetry, oral storytelling, books, films are all ways we use stories to share and understand big concepts. The Wilderness Society has been celebrating excellence in kids nature books since 1994 with the Environment Award for Children's Literature, and since 2022, the Karajia Award for Children's Literature.
Come along to hear the stories of this old logging town and why we must continue the fight to protect the Northern Jarrah Forests.
Spaces are limited - RSVP essential. Please bring water, sun protection and wear comfortable walking attire.
We will be meeting at the Bruno Gianatti Hall carpark in town from 8:30am.
We acknowledge the Noongar peoples - the Traditional Custodians of the land on which this event is taking place, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
