ABOUT

Last year alone, the WA government destroyed 45,200 hectares of forest. In real terms, that’s 22,376 football fields the size of the MCG destroyed in one year. Which means that 430 football fields of forest were destroyed every single week in our state. Sadly, this means that WA has the second highest rate of primary deforestation in Australia.

When it comes to our forests, we believe enough is enough, do you?

Join us for a night of letter writing! Learn how you can get a direct line to your elected member through this free workshop!

Personalised letters can impact policy, influence decisions of politicians and change outcomes for forests for the better. Policymakers don't need more stats and facts; they need to hear your stories. They are elected by you, to represent you after all. With an election looming, now is the perfect time to have your say and be heard by decision makers.

The Wilderness Society's Campaign Manager and Community Organiser will be there to tell you how your letter can make a difference and they’ll walk you through every step of writing a powerful, personalised letter.

What to bring:

  • A pen + paper to write your letter.
  • A friend (or two or three!) to ensure our collective voices are heard. Please send them the RSVP link. This will ensure that we are within health regulations of the venue.

What will be provided:

  • Expert help from our Campaign Manager (Patrick Gardner), Community Organiser (Stephanie Poly) + our local community leaders!
  • Research packs with some facts + figures to back your personal stories.
  • Envelopes for your letters.
  • Some nibbles provided to fuel you through the evening.

How will your letter help increase the protections for our forests?

We are running a state-wide campaign against deforestation. Your letter will help us to amplify this campaign. We are seeking three key policy commitments from political parties. You may also want to consider these as you determine where to direct your vote.

  1. A net gain to our state-wide native vegetation to push back on the continued rates of clearing in our forests and bushland.
  2. $100 million committed to land restoration programs to resuscitate vast tracts of degraded landscapes across the state.
  3. An end to native forest logging and the senseless destruction of centuries-old karri and jarrah trees.

While these commitments appear to be perfectly logical, our politicians, candidates and political parties need to hear your voice — loudly and urgently. And an election is the perfect time to get your politicians and candidates attention.

See you there?
