Wilderness Illawarra

Illawarra Wilderness banner

Wilderness Illawarra is part of the Wilderness Society's movement building program to protect nature and act on climate change.

We are a local team of volunteers formed in mid-2016 from passionate Illawarra locals from various backgrounds who love the Illawarra region, from the escarpment to the coast. We are now trained and actively working to building a local community to make a difference here in Wollongong and beyond. To start with, our group has selected local and national environmental campaigns to make a difference for our community.  We'd love for you to join us!

Our current campaigns:

Our current project is asking local government to take up a leadership role in dealing with climate change.  We are asking Wollongong and Shellharbour City Councils to act for their communities and end investment in companies involved with fossil fuels.  Most importantly we are asking the Councils to end carbon emissions in their own operations within five years.  Please sign our statement of support to Wollongong City Council here.

In national campaigns we are supporting the Great Australian Bight Alliance.  As a coastal community we are committed to protecting and repairing the marine environment. The GAB is one of last unspoiled wild places.  Let’s keep it that way.

Join the team!

We'd love for you to join us. We can offer a local community of people committed to making a difference for the environment, free training, support, encouragement and the satisfaction of creating meaningful change.

Wilderness Illawarra meets fortnightly, usually, on a Thursday evening.  We would love for you to get involved.  Contact us on organising.illawarra@wilderness.org.au

You can also join our Facebook group here.

Look forward to meeting you!
